is Saturday Sept 10th at 3:30pm. Some things we will discuss:

1) Organization administrative stuff: finances, business set-up (non-profit), accounting, paperwork, etc
2) Possible vendors
3) Licensing requirements, registration (one of my friends who is coming actually works for the city doing stuff like this so can give us the run-down on exactly what we need to do)
4) Events we should have at the gathering
5) Workshops we should have
6) Hotel to use
7) Sponsors to solicit
8 ) Fundraising projects (potluck dinners, yard sales, bake sales, candy sales, etc)
9) Keynote speakers and facilitators of workshops
10) Laying out of roles organizers and moderators should play throughout Mamagathering
11) Childcare
12) Security, discuss the need for it and what biz/org we should use.

What do ya'll think? What else should we address during the meting? What would you like to see at the gathering?

I don't know anybody that participated and wasn't in tune with the mama community since I wasn't a mama yet when the Mamagathering 2004 took place but reading from the boards it appeared pretty together with great workshops and all. I'm sure there was tons of work behind the scenes and difficulties with geography, communication and commitment among the organizers.

I'm glad the prospect of a new Mamagathering isn't lost and that you took the initiative to start up a discussion. I would love to see how I can help out as well but confused as to how being scattered in a different area would look in putting together such an event of that scale and expertise.

i'd like to help - not sure how that'll work from a distance, but i'm definitely up for helping in some way.

one of the longtime mamaphonic mamas, Foolsgold, was one of the organizers from the mpls gathering. although my impression is that it was a difficult experience for many of the organizers, hopefully they would be willing to talk to you so you can get their perspective on what they wish they had done differently.

Does anyone know how to get in contact with the organizers from the 2004 Gathering? I clicked on the email link and it comes up blank. That could be my email program or whaetever though. I would love to know how they organized it and stuff.
