writers groups

I was just wondering if any of you participate in writers groups. I think I could benefit from something like that but I have yet to make the leap. I write in kind of an undisciplined, sporadic way and I don't really have anyone to get feedback from. I also wonder how I would find the time for a group or writers workshop between work and the kids.
Another question......do most of you submit your work to others once you have finished it? How about non-mama writings? How do you find venues for your work?
Okay, enough questions from me for now! :-) Happy Valentine's Day!

once I belonged to a writer

once I belonged to a writer mama's group that was very unformal - meeting on saturday mornings in the cafe - to drink coffee and talk and share writing work and talk of other things. it was nice but dwindled away.

I wouldn't mind belonging to another writers group. Right now I have my pen pal who we give each other editing feedback - most feedback is from relationships through the web.

I mostly self publish, and most stuff I write lays around the house.

sorry - not much help! I just wanted to reply to you though :)

well i blog everyday as a sort of writing practice. when i actually write a "real" essay for my zine or another publication i will send a draft to a handful of friends who humor me with feedback. and oftentimes i post here for feedback. i think it is really helpful to have a few people give me their impressions before i submit something to the outside world.

i have thought of starting/joining a real life writer's group, but it seems like it would be too time consuming. or really, i know i am too imaptient to wait for a set meeting. sometimes i get trigger finger if you know what i mean.

as far as finding places to submit, well i've hit a bit of a brick wall. i seem to be obsessed with breaking into a few places rather than looking around for interesting and new places to submit like i used to.

i wish our deadline forum here was more active.

Thank you

Thank you all so much for your replies. I was thinking it would be nice to have a sort of "cyber" group to share writings with and give and get feedback. I feel like you Stacey. I don't know how well I would do scheduling in an actual writing group at a certain time. I struggle to find time to actually write between the kids and work.
