i've never made it out to one of these, but it sure does sound cool... aside from the Portland Zine Fest, i think it's one of the biggest events in the country for zines and other indie media.

How can alternative media go beyond merely "speaking truth" and actually change the material conditions of our world? How do we construct popular media projects that effectively build grassroots power and advance
social justice?

The Allied Media Conference 2006 will bring together some of the most innovative and visionary culture producers, media workers, artists and activists to probe these and other critical questions. Together, we will share skills and ideas and build new networks for organization and support. With our tremendous collective skill, ingenuity, and vision, we can use media to build new forms of popular power for the 21st

ABOUT THE AMC

The AMC, now in its 8th year, brings together alternative media from all across the country. The conference features hands-on workshops, group discussions, film screenings, artist presentations, a large exhibition hall to share your work, and a whole day for educators to learn how to use independent media in the classroom. Set in a small, midwest town, it's also a space to strengthen our community, meet new people, and enjoy each other's company.
