ABOUT THE PLAY...
Set in a magical-realist world where the wealthy hire personal narrators to conduct their conversations for them and the government subsidizes imaginary friends for poor children, Told You Once (told you a hundred times) follows Gary, an eager-to please personal narrator, whose new client is the wealthy and lonely Mrs. Sparks. When Mrs. Sparks meets Gary's daughter Tapestry, she believes this willful little girl is just what she needs to give meaning to her life---so she decides to rescue Tapestry from the influence of her inappropriate imaginary friends Pooper, Tooter, and Butt (three drinking, smoking, foul-mouthed lay-about guys who have their own peculiar stories). Tapestry herself yearns to be reunited with her mother Marta, who's been thrown in prison for mysterious reasons...
Half domestic drama about parental anxiety, half Fellini-esque phantasmagoria, Told You Once (told you a hundred times) bridges whimsy and darkness, mundane reality and explosive imagination.
