Momnipotence.com: new website seeks submissions

Hi mamas,

A friend passed along this call for subs for what looks to be a pretty nifty site. And they plan to pay soon, woo-hoo!

> Thank you for your interest in Momnipotence, a new, Seattle-based
> online support/activist magazine for mothers that is launching in
> June. We are currently accepting submissions from freelance writers
> who are parents, caregivers or parents-to-be. We’re also looking
> for regular assignment writers, so please send clips and your
> resume if you’re interested.
>
>
> We envision ourselves as falling in the same genre with Hip Mama,
> Brain, Child and mamazine.com, with hints ofMothering magazine,
> Mother Jones and Utne. Our Web site is currently under
> construction, but we will send out the URL to everyone on our email
> list as soon as it’s up and running.

> What we want
>
> We want pieces that speak passionately about current issues facing
> mothers and families; these issues should be related to politics,
> social justice, philosophy (e.g., parenting philosophies or
> education philosophies), psychology, education, sociology,
> medicine, science, health and/or culture. Examples of such issues
> include--but certainly are not limited to-- legislature that
> affects mothers and families, the motherhood movement, adoption,
> balancing work outside the home with the demands of motherhood,
> accommodations for breastfeeding mothers at their places of
> employment, challenges of single parenting, health (mental,
> physical, and environmental), parenting issues for the lesbian
> community, paid maternity leave, childcare issues and education.
>
>
> We want pieces that highlight people and organizations that are
> helping mothers and/or families in unique ways.
>
>
> We want articles about artist moms who incorporate motherhood into
> their art—be it music, writing, visual arts, dance or drama.
>
>
> We want book reviews about books that speak to moms, families and
> the motherhood movement. We want music reviews about music that you
> think makes a difference for moms and families—whether it’s there
> to protest, support or just make us feel good.
>
>
> We also love writing that displays a sense of humor.
>
>
> What we don’t want
>
> We aren’t interested in tips on parenting, beauty, cooking or
> domestic chores, and we don’t want buying guides. (That said, if
> you had an idea for a buying guide that was related to a social
> cause, then we might be interested in that -- for example,
> environmentally-friendly gifts for kids, or gifts that can be
> purchased from businesses owned by moms.)
>
>
> Remuneration
>
> Because we are strictly a volunteer operation at this point, we
> cannot pay writers at this time; however, it is our intention to
> begin paying writers as soon as possible. In the meantime, the
> rights to your stories remain yours, and publication in our online
> magazine will make great clips for your portfolio and a nice
> addition to your CV publication history. We also accept reprints as
> long as you still own the rights.
