Hello creative mamas!

Hello! I am an artist and writer mom from Maryland. I write reviews and feature articles for a great zine called THE AXWOUND which explores issues of gender in horror films. I also write for and edit a DC area aquarium club publication THE BIOTOPE. I'm currently in the process of editing my first book. It's a young adult novel about mermaids, tropical fish, catholic school, greek mythology and New Jersey. When not writing, my husband and are both staff members at an east coast anime convention. We'll be toting our daughter along to her first convention next month.
I'm glad to have found this site as I am struggling to balance my creative life with my new role as a mom. I've been spoiled as my husband has been at home for the past five months (our daughter is nine mos old). He and I have been able to split our days, getting plenty of time as a family while still allowing me private time to draw and to write. He starts a new job this monday and that will open a whole new chapter for us. I'm hoping to read the adventures and work strategies of other moms with creative lives. I'd love to hear how you make it all work.

and welcome. i look forward to seeing you around! :)

that is one of the most rockin' combinations of title & theme in a zine that i've ever heard! ha!

tenderfoot zine * mamaphiles!

welcome!

Mermaids and Greek mythology hmmm? I'm intrigued...

Have fun with your daughter at the convention. When you get frustrated, just remember that she'll get older and more portable (and, if toted to enough of them, will really enjoy them in a way that her peers, who haven't been to them as wee ones, will not). And remember that you're probably trailblazing the way for other parents, who think that they have to keep their kids (and thus themselves) away.

Sometimes paper is the only thing that will listen to you.

Welcome, mama! Good luck

Welcome, mama! Good luck with that transition! I always find the book Mamaphonic inspiring when I am worrying over such things (and none of my work appears in it, so I can be semi-unbiased about saying that), if you ever want a good book on such stuff.
