hello! new to the group and mamahoodi wanted to introduce myself to folks. i'm connie, i live in grand junction, colorado. i'm 27 yrs old, just graduated college i n '06. i've been involved in activism for about 6 years and zine writing for about three. over the past 2 years or so i've been delving into anarchist theory scholastically and thru zines and friends etc. as soon as i found out i was pregnant (i was on vacation in europe) i got home and picked up the mamaphiles. i have an extensive zine collection and until now didn't read any of the mamaphiles. i am co-founder/co-editor/writer for The Red Pill (we've yet to have website after three years, but you can find it at: www.myspace.com/gjam_theredpill, contact: gjredpill@hotmail.com. we can also be found at zinewiki, gnn.org, infoshop). While it's not a mama focused zine (more alternative media, history, news, poetry, etc.) you can bet your booty there will be more mama/baby submissions in the future as one of our other submitters is pregnant as well. i'm excited to hear that there will be a mamaphiles #3 coming out and have been racking my brain for something i can contribute. Since i'm only about 13 weeks along, i'm just getting started on the journey that is motherhood. i thought maybe a story about my coming home from a month long vacation with surprising to news to everyone might be a good one, so i suppose we'll see how it turns out. my parents had all but given up on me having kids as all my younger siblings are all ready married with kids. well that is a short introduction. i'm excited to be part of this group, i've enjoyed all the stories of the previous mamaphiles and can't wait to see what the next one brings. thank you to all the writers who have given me insight to what it is going to be like being a mama and juggling that with the rest of the work i love so much |
