Kidz Corner @ Mid-Atlantic Radical Bookfair in Baltimore this weekend!

(sorry to post this at the last minute!)

http://redemmas.org/bookfair/2007/

Kidz Corner in the basement of the Village Learning Place on 2521 Saint Paul
St. Saturday and Sunday

Its a space set up to support children and parents, to hang out , to
meet, and a good portion of both days will
have childcare available, some volunteers are nannies, some moms (Sara
and Alina are volunteering 2-4 on saturday, and some friendly people.
We have side walk chalk. Books, rad coloring books, and crayons. We
have apple juice and grahm crackers! Ok, so not that exciting. But its
a great chance to maybe meet up with other rad parents and folks! I would
love to see you there.

Sunday at 1:00 I am doing my workshop (at the top level of the Village
Learning Place) I will have my book there: "The
Future Generation: a zine-book for subculture parents, kids, friends & others" by China Martens. (it says on the schedule I am presenting
my book. well, not really so. I'm talking about parent and kid issues
and why the child-free should care and support them, as a political
issue; and themes in community, how we need to be included)

then at 2:30 Alina is going to do a kid sing-a-long as she sings with
her guitar. A child-free volunteer is also around at that time and he
is bringing his accordion. So maybe we will have a spontaneous jam?
(and take over the world?! come and see!)

Hope to see ya!

Thank You Kidz Corner Volunteers & Mid-Atlantic Radical Book Fai

Kidz Corner was a grand success! A lot of volunteers and helpers came through! Yes this year was short on kidz, only 4 on Saturday and 10 on Sunday (with one anarchist family coming in from Charlottsville VA) - but still we had it together! What a great precedent and foundation to build on. A special thank you to Red Emmas for always being there and being supportive in every single way possible.

Next year planning will start earlier and the word will get out more.

Also, I'm not sure if you got it, but that creature made up of many arms and legs roaring under the colorful 60's crocheted afghan ...that was the "Book Monster" who paraded out from Kidz Corner, late Sunday afternoon, to the bookfair to eat the books and zines. We were satisfied and came "home" to much on rad coloring books. I don't make this stuff up, really! every year I am like "uh, I dont' know, maybe we can do a parade" But the people, they demand to parade!

Again thank you everyone for your support. Thank you Lanie for being a co-laborator and your tremendous job of opening and heading up the Kidz Corner Saturday; and John, Kate, and Elisa for being at the last planning meeting and helping get it together. Thank you wonderful volunteers and peeps that helped in a pinch: Kat, Sara, Elina, Steve, Christine, Shannon (even tho you got sick and couldn't come, you had wanted to and that rocks!) Marina, Nick, Umara, Aimee, Becca, Jonathon, Patrick, Irina and Marina again. (If I left anyone out, I'm sorry, thank you!)

I am trying to make a little zine about the weekend, but its kind of turning into a handwritten mess, so I'm not sure if that zine is working or not. We'll see.

sincerely,
china
