let's talk promotion for Mamaphiles 3 - sending out copies for review, PR, local distribution, etc.so let's brainstorm how we want to promote this puppy this time 'round... for #1, we sent out what seemed like an awful lot of review copies. we did get reviewed at a handful of places but decided to scale way back for #2. here are some blurbs from the reviews from the first issues: we had some attempts at writing press releases but i'm not sure they ever got sent anywhere. both times i've had fantasies of putting together a semi-polished "press packet" that we would send out with review copies, at least to the more traditional venues like Mothering. but in reality, not sure i will have the time/energy to get it together. anyone who wants to take a stab at writing a press release, please go ahead! i will make up a quick'n'dirty list of a small handful of places that we've had success in getting reviewed in the past. my knowledge runs more toward the zine world and less toward the parenting world, so please pass along/post info y'all may have on places to send copies that might give us some press. also, a couple of people have offered to approach local stores to see if they would carry Mamaphiles, which is a great idea. this could be at places that regularly carry zines and/or places where parents tend to shop. we will work out logistics of getting either physical (hard copy) masters or electronic .pdf files to any & all who want to sell copies locally. one thing we haven't really done before is send out review copies to people we think are "influential" parenting bloggers. ??? no idea if that's a good idea but it's an idea anyway! the way i see it, the more parents who come across it, the better. it's up to us to be creative in how people find out about it. thoughts?
