One more mama

Just wanted to say hello. I'm another mama joining mamaphonic. I wrote a poem on mamaphonic a while ago and have since taken a break from writing. But I'm starting over, and have acquired a new username here on mamaphonic. I've gone from hippiemama to bohemiangirl. Bohemiangirl describes me better, as I don't quite fit into the hippie mold completely. There is a little hippie in me, signified by long, flowing skirts, an affection for this beautiful earth, and a certain nostalgia for my old pot-smoking days...
But there's so much more. I try to go against the grain, to break out of the stereotype that I find myself in(suburban, van-driving mom). So Bohemiangirl it is. Hello everyone! I'm excited about reviving my love for writing and about making connections with other art-mamas. Looking forward...
Stephanie

Hi. Welcome back. I know

Hi. Welcome back.

I know what you mean about not getting stuck in the suburban, van-driving mom mold. I finally traded in my van on an Accord, but I still have all the trappings, including the corporate husband. I don't want to get lost in a sea of oblivious white middle-class privilege. And I don't want my kids to grow up oblivious, either, but it's tough to avoid.

Having kids, particularly small kids, can be a real block, but they're also a rich source, if you can just find the peace and quiet to write it all down.

welcome! i understand how

welcome! i understand how you feel about some label not fitting you right. so many people call me a hippie that i've come to despise the label all together. and i tell them all the hippies or either dead or sold out (or bought in) tho there are real ones out there somewhere...but i'm not one of them, tho i adhere to some of their ideas and lifestyle affiliations. i'm trying to cross that hippie/punk divide, that's what i want to do. sometimes i feel labels do nothing but divide and would rather not use them at all, or use so much, it's almost meaningless.

Right on !

Your're right, I get so sick of people saying, "hey hippie" because I'm wearing a long, flowing skirt. I don't think many people really know what it means to be a hippie, in the original sense. Labels divide us, and I find myself more judgemental when I hear that someone is boxed into a certain group. Let's break the cycle!

welcome! Happy writing!

welcome! Happy writing!

Thanks!

Thanks!

welcome back!

hope the site reinspires you!

what kind of art and writing were you doing before?

Sometimes paper is the only thing that will listen to you.

Thanks! I make jewelry,

Thanks! I make jewelry, sew, paint, and write. I wrote a TON when I was in high school, and it sort of phased out until I had children. My children have inspired me to write more. (Ironically, they're also the reason I get numb in the brain and can't even pick up a pen!)I've written some short stories about them and some peoms. I've also written some opionion pieces(my favorite subjects are feminism and Christianity, and how they relate) on a friend's blog. I'm definitely not a professional writer, but I'm a writer at heart.
Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to being inspired.
