I know zines are not blogs, but how would you explain a blog...?

to a person who has never seen one?

to a person who has spent the past decade (or more!) in prison and therefore has no idea of the huge explosion in technology and communications via computer?

Saying that it's kind of like an on-line zine just doesn't do it.

I think online zine really

I think online zine really helps, though. If they know what a website is, you could say that people can have these tiny, free personal websites now that are like online diaries or zines ... sort of like everyone can be an online columnist now? If they are not familiar with the web much at all, you could say that a lot of things that would have been in newspapers and magazines and zines in the past are now put online were people with computers and internet connections can read them by typing in a specific location on the computer to find the information, like an address...that's the best I can think of...
