Though we have an existing call for submissions for The Chemistry of Clean, we would love to receive submissions for our upcoming projects at any time. We’re also willing to work with contributors on their creative process as they develop pieces they would like to see in the final publication.

Our upcoming projects include:

from www.greenprofit.comPHYTING FOR REMEDIATION

This publication will take a scientific and experiential approach to using plants in soil rehabilitation efforts, particularly (though not exclusively) in urban settings. The contents will explain how large deposits of heavy metals and other toxins negatively effect the environment and how plants absorb these toxins. There will be articles talking about contamination in community gardens and how gardeners have overcome such obstacles to produce food that is non-toxic and healthy. The publication will also focus on plants that have been used for phytoremediation projects and why they’re effective, including plants that have been genetically modified for the purposes of soil rehabilitation. There will be critiques of these genetically modified plants and profiles of naturally-occurring plants that leech toxins from the soil. The text will include gardeners’ and environmentalists’ experiences using plants in their own rehabilitation efforts in different parts of the country. There will be a break-down of the phytoremediation process. It will include a guide to guerilla gardening, community gardening, and personal gardening with a focus on plants that “heal” the soil.

cartoon plastic bagPAPER VS. PLASTIC
We have options: paper or plastic? Environmentally geared stores usually are into paper. But both are produced using methods that negatively tax the environment and both substances are recycled. This manual will demystify the processes behind the production and recycling of both paper and plastic. It will also include methods of re-purposing paper and plastic that have a low environmental impact.

LET IT FLOW: THE WATER ISSUE

This publication will explore the legacy of irrigation and plumbing in the historical context of how our water systems were developed. Recycling water and waste water treatment options will be discussed with a focus on existing systems, how these could be modified to be more efficient, and examples of homemade solutions to make more use of city water “before it goes down the drain.”
