Schedules for Creativity

I find that I get much more work done when I treat my writing as a job and stick to a schedule. It's fall again which means adjusting to the school year, and my work schedule has changed. I also have to factor in my gym time too. But just off the top of my head I figure I can write roughly 10 hours a week, 15 if you count my blog(s) writing. This is a little over 2 hours a day, and I figure one of those hours is purely time on the fly; writing in my notebook in bits of time like breaks at work, waiting while on hold on the phone, etc. Little minute increments that add up. Then the other hour and 15 minutes I need to commit to sitting down and doing it. I already wake up early to exercise, so I think I will do it in the hour after dinner when my sons do their homework. That way I won't feel like I'm taking time from them. That's during the week, then Sat/Sun I can do the rest of the time while at my bookstore.

Do you have a schedule? How do you find time to create? When do you do it?

i don't have a schedule, tho my partner and i have talked about a schedule, which we were loosely holding to mostly for his writing tho. once cohen came, all scheduling flew out the window. i was getting my writing time during my scheduled shifts at our info shop, but we've been closed for the past month. we will be opening again in september, but i've written nothing since the baby's come. i don't really count stuff i write here, i'm mostly talking about my zine projects and the others i contribute to here and there. i'd like to do a schedule. i kno i can work it in since nicolai spends about 3 days a week with his dad. i think i schedule would help me a lot more. i have 2 pieces i have to finish for the new cuntastic, sooo...i guess i'll start that soon. my partner is supportive and would take the kiddos for a bit.

hey anarchohippypunk! thanks for responding. writing with a baby is super hard, I feel you. I find it's a struggle and my youngest 'baby' will be 12 years old soon! but we do what we can. I'm starting my new writing schedule sept.1st, I'm psyched about it. :)
