New zine in the making - After EdenAfter Eden: Tales from the Garden of Life Print zine for writing parents, accepting submissions in original fiction and creative non-fiction. After Eden is a print zine providing a creative outlet for writing parents. It can be nearly impossible as a parent to find time for writing and the prospect of publishing is often a daunting task. After Eden is a place where self-identified parents can come together and share their work on topics certainly not limited to parenthood. Issues are $3 a piece and a year's subscription is $12. After Eden will be published four times a year. To subscribe, email sarah_aftereden@yahoo.com. Writer's Guidelines: All parents, adoptive, step, grand, foster, non-biological, etc... If you identify yourself as a parent, we want to hear from you. Each issue will publish works of original fiction, any topic, 500 – 1500 words, and creative non-fiction pieces, also 500 – 1500 words. We are currently a non-paying market, but you will receive a complimentary issue of the edition in which your work appears. Simultaneous submissions are fine and the author retains all rights to her/his work. Poetry and prose will also be considered on a limited basis. Submissions are ongoing and we hope to have the first issue prepared by fall 2004. What we are looking for in fiction: We accept works of original fiction on any subject, including some (tasteful) erotica. We want to see stories that draw the reader in and utilize solid characterization. The kind of stories we're looking for may be strongly narrative or rely heavily on dialogue. Our only requirement is that the story is well-written, compelling, and meets the guidelines for length. What we are looking for in creative non-fiction: Personal essays on the topics of parenting, relationships, family history, tales from military families, and writing on every day life from across the political and social spectrum. To submit your story, send as a .doc attachment to brittany_aftereden@yahoo.com with "After Eden Submission" in your subject line. Email submissions are easier for us to handle and save us a lot of typing. Please include a brief biographical note and your contact information. You will receive email confirmation when your story is received. If you wish to submit via regular mail, send an email to sarah_aftereden@yahoo.com for guidelines. We currently do not have a website for the zine, but we plan on changing that in the near future. |
