This sounds great!

I think its good you have liscenced daycare providers. I have been plotting for a while on how all events - esp. political or countercultural ones - should have daycare as part of a political move to include/support/liberate moms and kids.

and the daycare is often a mess - if it happens. one thing is seen is a need to put thought, care, and preparedness into childcare. besides including the larger community. I think over time I am seeing that the way to go is to have liscenced childcare (plus volunteers, kids action group?) cuz average people are very fumbling with childcare. plus it will be safer for kids and moms. but to combine liscenced care with radical element.

hmmm. rambling.

ARE YOU WRITING A SLINGSHOT article? if you are, I really want to see this. please list up info about that.

thanks! i TOTALLY agree!

we have struggled with the childcare idea because (1) it can get expensive (the rate in our area is $10/hour) and (2) we are more of the attachment parenting type.

but i think on balance this is a happy medium, because the event itself is free, you just pay for your drinks and food, and the providers we lined up are people who do family/home daycare, so it's not some kind of sterile weird 'daycare factory' situation.

plus we set up a message board so we are also hopefull that people who want to can connect to swap childcare with each other.

plus, it also becomes one of those things where moms will scrape together $20 bucks when their kid needs it but will sacrifice their own basic needs without a second thought. so to me it makes sense that if we can hang onto this as a once-a-month event, it can turn into a really positive and fun alternative to therapy. just kidding. but it will be positive and fun and moms fucking deserve the support and loud music!

oh, and it is my bandmate rachael who is writing the article. i'm sure we will post it on our website when it is done.

peace,
eileen
