MotherVerse

I just ran across this new literary journal-type magazine on an ad at the Hip Mama site, and thought you all might like to check it out. It looks impressive and thoughtful so far, and it's nice to think there will be a place for literary stuff that isn't as intimidating-to-submit-to as "Brain, Child."

They don't unfortunately.

They don't unfortunately. You get two free copies and a sub, but it's a brand-new venture, and the editor told me they were hoping to be able to pay soon.

congratulations! I don't

congratulations!

I don't think B,C is intimidating because of any way they've treated me, or even other writers I know. I think I just meant that they get SO many submissions, and so many of really high quality, that the competition is intense, which can make me feel timid rather than energized. I'm funny that way :).

Oh, I know exactly what you

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. When I send something to BC, it's always with the feeling that, nah, they probably won't take it (though they did that one time), but oh, well, might as well try. Thanks for the congrats!

It does look good

I sent something and just heard today that my piece is going to be in their Fall issue. At first I thought it was a new poetry mag, but it looks more like it's aiming to be another Brain, Child, but with an international flavor. I hope it succeeds, since only four issues/year of BC isn't nearly enough literary mama writing for me! (I haven't found BC to be intimidating to submit to, by the way. They have always been super nice, and write the kindest rejection letters...)
