links in signatures

Feeling like a major dork here, but I can't figure out how to make a link in my sig. I see that others have done it - someone please clue me in! Thanks

bb tags don't work here.

(i meant to post about this earlier. it took me a while to figure it out when hipMama switched over to this format.)

to make a clickable link, you have to write it in HTML. now if i can just figure out how to show it without the system thinking it's a link...um...

the HTML tags look like this (except WITHOUT THE EXTRA SPACES - the text should be right up against the brackets):
< a href = "http://www.yourURL.com" > whatever text you want goes here < /a >

for example, in my sig, the code looks like this (again, take out all extra spaces):
< a href = "http://www.tenderfootzine.com" > www.tenderfootzine.com < /a >

you don't have to repeat the URL in the text. anything you put in between the two HTML tags will be the text that becomes clickable. like if you wanted the words "hip Mama" to be the link, you would do this:
< a href = "http://www.hipmama.com" > hip Mama < /a >
when you take the spaces out, it comes out like this (once you hit the "post comment" button, that is):
hip Mama

does that make any sense whatsoever??? will someone who doesn't know HTML tell me if they can do it following those instructions? i fear i'm making this more confusing than it needs to be...

um, tenderfoot?

I tried doing what you had posted for one of my 300 words post and ended up linking 90% of my writing to either one site or another.

I have no idea what I did wrong. Maybe I took out too many spaces or left one in or...?

Help?

i see it - there's an extra s

i see it - there's an extra space in your closing tag. right after "visions in feminism" - take the space out between the < and the /. the same seems to be true with the second link. try that & see if it works.

(there must be a better way to explain code... having to take out the spaces is too confusing. i think i've seen people use [] instead of the <> you use in the actual code; maybe i should have tried that...)

bump!

(this all applies if you want to make a clickable link in the body of a post, too - not just for sigs.)

Thx

thankyou for taking the time to do that. I know your instructions work too, since I was successful once - just haven't been able to do it again, but it's my problem, not your instructions!
