Theater Mama

Free 2-Year Development & Networking Program for Producers, Playwrights, Directors - Women's Project, NYC

(passing along from an email list. i have no idea how the labs work, if they would be do-able as a mama, but it's worth asking, right?)

----------------

Women's Project is now accepting applications for its 2006-2008 Playwrights Lab, Directors Lab, and the new Producers Lab. The deadline for applications is Monday, June 5, 2006.

Women's Project seeks innovative playwrights, directors, and producers with an interest in developing work and forging relationships with other artists and industry professionals. Each Lab is comprised of eight to ten members who are admitted for a free, two-year program. The mission of the Labs is to provide exciting and vital opportunities for artistic growth, to foster relationships between theater professionals, and to further the careers of members. girlmom in NYC and DC

I am coming to NYC and DC in February and would like to invite you all to a reading of "Girl-Mom." I would love to see you all, and am super keen for feedback! "Girl-Mom" is a one act play with 71 voices (read by 6 actresses). It is a play constructed from posts (with permission) to a feminist message board/online community of the same name, run by and for young/teen mothers www.girlmom.com. (Most of you know all this...) The play was read last June at a local theatre festival for emerging artists, and was read, in part, at the Mama Gathering in Minneapolis, July 2004. This coming May, "Girl-Mom" will be produced as a workshop/reading by The Citadel Theatre in Edmonton for the Teens at the Turn Festival.

first audition

ok...so i've never auditioned for a real play before. i did high school and some college plays, but never something like this. sure it is community theatre but still...it's been ages for me.
the local theater is doing "angels in america part 1" and i actually picked up a script and am reading it. whether or not i'll actually go so far as auditioning, who knows...
but i am nervous. i have a dumb question.

photos from the reading

here is a link to the photos from the reading.

i have a cute two scene story i just blasted off.
what do you think?

"HAIR" the stage musical

Does anyone have access to a video of a staged production (not the movie)?
I'm designing it soon and haven't ever seen it on stage - am wondering how it translates and would really love to see a stage version somewhere even if it's just video.
thx

the laramie project

we open tommorrow. i need to relax and focus and it will be ok.
i'm scared. i had a terrible terrible dress.
which usually means it is all going to go loverly. but still i worry.
