It's the beginning of "The Party" Competition at Filmaka! Make a 1-3 film on this theme and you could win funding to direct your feature film! The competition is judged by esteemed international filmmakers Werner Herzog, Zak Penn, Colin Firth, Paul Schrader, and more! Each month there is a new theme and 15-20 filmmakers receive $1500-$4500. Three of them go on to compete for feature funding at the end of the year.

It's been a while since I,ve been on this forum... Just thought I'd let you know about this year's Expozine. Can't wait to go. I don't have a table this year - just going as a collectioneuse.

Expozine, Montreal’s annual small press, comic and zine fair, will take place on Saturday, November 29 and Sunday, November 30, 2008, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 5035 St-Dominique (Église Saint-Enfant Jésus, between St-Joseph and Laurier, near Laurier Métro). Free admission.

hey y'all,
come see me, the mama calendar, new issues of once upon a photobooth & the future generation, & ye olde mamaphiles #3 at the new orleans bookfair this weekend! I'll be housed (at the mamaphiles table) in d.b.a., and the kid's space is split in two locations - outdoors with a bouncey castle and story fort on the corner of frenchmen & chartres, and indoors with zine making, book making, animation, dress up & other cool activities down frenchmen at the hookah cafe.

MAKING APPEARANCES AT THE ZINE FEST
- The Dreams & Ideals Radical Mama book tour will be making a stop at the Richmond Zine Fest from 12-2pm at The Firehouse Theatre location. The tour features China Martens, editor of of the long-running punk parenting zine The Future Generation reading from her book The Future Generation: The Zine-Book For Subculture Parents, Kids, Friends & Others (China also contributes a column to the long-running RVA zine Slug & Lettuce); Ariel Gore of the zine Hip Mama (hipmama.com) will be performing from her book How To Become a Famous Writer Before You're Dead: Your Words in Print and Your Name in Lights; and Annie Downey will be reading from her novel Hot and Bothered, "a Cinderella story for single moms."

Get out of the cold and bask in the creativity and community at mothers alliance for mutual aid (m*a*m*a)'s FUNdraiser on Friday, February 23rd. Handmade arts, crafts, zines, comics and baked goodies will be sold to benefit our (almost) annual Mothers Day event, Mamas Rising Up!(our annual reclamation of Mother’s Day as an activist holiday that celebrates caregivers). Also a kid’s art area, tarot readings and a kissing booth (suggested donation). Here are a few events I hope to get to this year. Every year I say I'm gonna booth at Comfest, then don't apply in time. I really want to go this year but they don't have the dates up yet. I hope it doesn't conflict with the Allied Media Conference, which is June 22-24, or BookExpo America, which is June 1-3. Those two I definitely plan to do this year.
