mama sez no war in on-line exhibit!

well, a portion of it anyway:

http://www.barnard.edu/library/zines/exhibits/online/elections/mama.html

Check it out!

I know zines are not blogs, but how would you explain a blog...?

to a person who has never seen one?

to a person who has spent the past decade (or more!) in prison and therefore has no idea of the huge explosion in technology and communications via computer?

Saying that it's kind of like an on-line zine just doesn't do it.

Suggestions?

Where is everyone?

Miss you, mamas! And where the heck is China? Feels like I haven't heard from her in an age.

Anyone like to shop online auctions?

I just wanted to suggest a site that I love for baby clothes, great deals on designer kids clothes, hip maternity clothes, toys, and more. It's so great because there are so many deals on items that are like new or new from other moms! Just wanted to recommend it, b/c it is one of my favs. :-)

I recently started writing regularly for the MotherVerse blog. If you get a chance, here is the link: http://www.motherverse.com/blog/

New women's forum up HerForum.org

http://herforum.org/bbs/

My friend started a new forum for women. It is very non-judgmental with so far a nice small group of really awesome women. There are tons of different religious forums from atheists & agnostics, pagans, Judaism, Christian, ect. There are domestic violence support boards, birth groups (such as Moms of 2002 babies), Eating disorders, dealing with depression, cancer support - ALL KINDS of womens topics.

sustainability and art

Hi Gals,

Question-

How do you define sustainability?
Also, does sustainability relate to art and artmaking and if so, how?

If anyone has any ideas to contribute I would so appreciate it. I am working on developing the art curriculum for a charter school and this is something that I'm trying to sort through in my head. Thanks!

word help?

Hey writer mamas,

A bit of word help, s'il vous plait.

Is there a word that describes the texture of a piece of paper that has been wet and then has dried? You know, when it is no longer smooth, but has that water-damaged feeling? (I am looking for something more specific than "water damage.")

Thanks!

question about copyright

I'm thinking of submitting a proposal for an article to an academic journal. I'm not really familiar with how to write proposals for academic journals and thought I'd look on their website for some clues.

Their guidelines for submitting complete manuscripts (as opposed to proposals) state that I have to write on my cover page:

"This is a draft copy of a manuscript submitted to XXX Journal. If it is accepted for publication, the copyright will be assigned to the publisher, XYZ University Press."

I thought of all my Mamaphonic mamas today

Been re-reading a bunch of my Madeleine L'Engle books & came across this. Sums everything about this place up in one neat & tidy package (although the process itself can be most unneat & untidy!).

"If I thought I had to say it better than anybody else, I'd never start. Better or worse is immaterial. The thing is that it has to be said, by me. We each have to say it , to say it in our own way. Not of our own will, but as it comes out through us. Good or bad, great or little: that isn't what human creation is about. It is that we have to try. "- Madeleine L'Engle

Just to reiterate the important part here -- Better or worse is immaterial. The thing is that it has to be said, by me... It is that we have to try.
