If I get my way :) this movie will become this year's word-of-mouth indie film with legs, the way "My Big Fat Wedding" was. (Not that I have even seen that movie, and not to say that these films are similar - I just mean that that was something that no one really expected to be such a big hit, but because of word-of-mouth among largely female audiences, it was a huge success.)

New film that just dropped, there's quite the buzz over this "rent a rasta"
documentary dealing in part with them wolves or "rastatues", it's a wicked
flick, interesting, good ital roots dub, see some clip at www.filmclub.com
and lemme know what you tink, dem king of BAMBOO...LOL, Maybe it's the roots
tonic that makes it possible :)

as far as movies go, the last thing i saw in the theater was Corpse Bride, the new Tim Burton stop-motion animated movie (a la Nightmare Before Christmas). i'd been looking forward to that for a long time since Nightmare is a big favorite in our family, but i actually found it pretty disappointing. even the songs were underwhelming - and i know i'll provoke erz_scamp's fierce Danny Elfman loyalties by saying that ;) but i have to say it anyway.

So good. This movie is about a young woman in Columbia who, because of desperate circumstances, ends up a drug mule, trafficking heroin into NYC. Very intense and sad. The character is pregnant throughout the movie.

Ijust saw the one-woman play, "Nine Parts of Desire" by Heather Raffo. Unbelievably fantastic. It's at Manhattan Ensemble Theater on Mercer St. I highly highly highly recommend it- if you are looking for a play to see in nyc anytime soon this is incredible. She plays nine different Iraqi woman of various ages and circumstances- all affected by the war in different ways.

Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry

It is impossible to see this movie and not be moved. It is assembled with great skill and you can feel that Butler's heart is completely in it, that it is more than just a great story to him. The cine photography of John Kerry and his crew and a number of swift boat operations in Vietnam has a kind of ethereal quality about it. There are moments of breathtaking beauty and then as the camera pans down you see village huts aflame, troops standing around a body. It's like a heart-breaking home movie. There is such a personal quality about this and that's what gives it such emotional power. It so much more than a rehashing of old wounds. It's really telling both sides of the story - the suffering of the Vietnamese people meshing with the suffering of the United States troops.

who else loves freaks and geeks? we got it on dvd recently - we splurged and got this super deluxe set that comes in a mock high school yearbook signed by all the characters in the show and awk! it is the coolest thing in the world. i am in love, love, love, love, love with nick andopolis. seriously. if you've never seen it, trust me, rent the dvd's! or, hell, you might as well go ahead and buy it, since it's about to become your favorite tv show and all anyway.

Okay ladies, time for you pop culture lovers to come out of the closet. Who's watching this show with me? Tell me I'm not the only one!

My opinion at this point? I think it should (not that it necessarily WILL, but SHOULD) come down between Fantasia and George Huff. The rest of the people kind of suck to various degrees.

just as we got our first taste of spring in new england another snow storm hit last night that is to last all week :( thankfully the new season of absolutely fabulous came out on dvd yesterday! i don't have the cable station it airs on so this is my first viewing...i love these girls!
this season deals with saffy ( the daughter) pegnancy and birth, can't think of a better way to deal with the cabin fever. :)
